Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks ‘Parole in Place’ Program
August 30, 2024
- On August 26, 2024, a federal district court judge temporarily blocked the Biden administration from approving parole request under the Keeping Families Together (“Parole in Place”) program.
- The program gives spouses of U.S citizens legal status without having to first leave the United States. Parole in Place offers spouses of U.S. citizens without legal status, who meet certain criteria, a path to citizenship by applying for a green card and staying in the U.S. while undergoing the process.
- The court order, which lasts for two weeks but could be extended, comes one week after the Department of Homeland Security began accepting applications.
