In addition, FGI supports Global Detroit’s Global Talent Retention Initiative (GTRI). GTRI connects southeast Michigan companies with international students and graduates, filling critical talent gaps. GTRI’s programs include an intensive Global Talent Accelerator as well as workshops, networking events, job fairs, and other career-building offerings. GTRI supports southeast Michigan employers with trainings and resources on immigration regulations, hiring processes, and other topics that will help them attract and retain top talent and help make Michigan a global business leader. Founded as the Alkebu-lan Martial Arts Federation in 1978, Alkebu-lan Village’s original purpose was to provide affordable martial arts training for African-American youth. Over the years, the organization expanded to include youth and adult sports and fitness, leadership training, visual and performing arts, homework assistance and tutoring, youth entrepreneurship training and community service. Launching its new identity as Alkebu-lan Village in November 2000, the organization currently provides educational, cultural, and recreational programs to over 1,000 Detroit youth and their families each year through on-site and outreach programs. St. Joseph Family Support Foundation is a 501(c) public charity whose main mission is to stimulate the spirit of community awareness and giving to those who are less fortunate in the greater Metro Detroit area and its surrounding areas in the state of Michigan. St. Joseph provides emergency assistance to families of orphans and widows/widowers who are in a dire financial situation due to the loss of a main income earner. In addition, St. Joseph provides temporary monthly financial assistance to individuals and families facing economic challenges, and rewards scholarships to students pursuing a higher education degree and who do not qualify for loans. St. Joseph also provides financial assistance for health care to those without medical insurance coverage, operates a food bank, and provides guidance, job placement and coordination of services for those who have found themselves facing an economic crisis. Founded in 2009 in memory of Alana Yaksich, who died of influenza at the age of five in 2003, Alana’s Foundation’s mission is to prevent deaths caused by influenza, a vaccine preventable disease, and provide support for families whose child has died from any illness. Alana’s Foundation provides influenza education and awareness with a focus on offering convenient and affordable flu vaccination options. The foundation also supports grieving families through offering grief counseling, short term financial support, or assistance in fulfilling basic day-to-day needs. Habitat for Humanity is a non-US nongovernmental and nonprofit organization that brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 35 million people construct, rehabilitate or preserve homes. As of 2020, Habitat for Humanity operates in more than 70 countries. Habitat for Humanity also partners with families, communities, and local organizations to help older adults improve their homes and quality of life. Established in 1942, Grace Centers of Hope is one of the largest faith-based long-term life skills programs for those afflicted by homelessness, addiction, and abuse in southeastern Michigan. Grace Centers of Hope offers programs for men, women, and children who are seeking shelter and healing for their souls. Through a loving Christian community, all centered around Grace Gospel Fellowship Church, Grace Centers of Hope provides hope, jobs, and stability for each of their residents for many years to come. Founded in 1962, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. The hospital is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80%. St. Jude is one of a few pediatric research organizations in the United States where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. Founded in 1980, the Alzheimer’s Association leads the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia – by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. The Association is the largest non-profit funding of Alzheimer’s disease research and has chapters and communities across the U.S. Currently, the Association is investing over $250 million USD to more than 750 projects in 39 countries. Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Gift of Life Michigan is the state’s federally designated organ and tissue recovery program, providing all service necessary for organ donation to occur in Michigan. Gift of Life is a non-profit organization working 24 hours a day all over the state as a liaison between donors, hospitals, and transplant center. Gift of Life recovers more than 1,000 organs every year for transplantation form nearly 400 or more donors, saving hundreds of lives. The FBI National Citizens Academy Alumni Association (FBINCAAA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer organization that works in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on community outreach programs to promote public safety and security through community engagement, education, and services initiatives. Racquet Up Detroit’s mission is to support and empower Detroit youth so they can achieve their full potential through a long-term, demanding, and inspiring mentoring program of squash, academic and community service. Youth join in the 5th grade and are supported through graduation from high school and college. The American Heart Association (AHA) is a nonprofit organization that funds cardiovascular medical research, educates consumers on healthy living, and fosters appropriate cardiac care in an effort to reduce disability and deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke. The AHA was formed in 1924 as a professional scientific society and became a nationwide voluntary health organization in 1948. In addition, the AHAH is committed to funding early-career investigators, whose work is vital to the future of heart and brain health. The New Day Foundation for Families’ mission is to provide financial and emotional support for families fighting cancer. New Day works in partnership with Michigan hospitals and cancer centers to help families alleviate financial toxicity, a harmful side effect that creates significant barriers to treatment and healing. New Day provides financial assistance directly to creditors on behalf of families for critical living expenses. In addition, New Day offer emotional support and financial planning programs and also provides assistance with grocery shopping and delivery to help those who are immune-suppressed and need to avoid busy stores. The Belinda Sue Fund was founded on November 1, 2011. DRMM is a faith-based, non-profit organization, recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and has devoted a wealth of resources to meet the basic needs of humanity while motivating individuals to rebuild their lives, one life at a time.
