UNITED KINGDOM – Tier 2 (General) Shortage Occupation List to Include Nurses
To address the shortage of nurses in the United Kingdom, nurses will be temporarily added to the Tier 2 (General) Shortage Occupation List. Tier 2 (General) applications for foreign nurses (outside of the European Economic Area) will take priority over other occupations that are not experiencing shortages.
This change will push other applications further down the qualifying list which has an annual available quota of 20,700 for Tier 2 (General) applications. When this cap is surpassed, the minimum salary needed for a Restricted Certificate of Sponsorship will increase thus possibly making it tougher to obtain this certificate. This change will be subject to additional review by the Migration Advisory Committee and will likely be enforced within the following few months.
