Oman – Six-Month Ban on Hiring Foreign Nationals in 87 Professions

Effective immediately, Oman’s Ministry of Manpower has suspended the recruitment of foreign nationals in 87 professions, across ten sectors, for six months.

Who is Affected?

The affected sectors are as follows:

  • Information systems;
  • Media;
  • “Technical professions”;
  • Engineering;
  • Air transport;
  • Accounting and finance;
  • Engineering;
  • Insurance;
  • Sales and marketing;
  • Management and human resources;

Exemptions

  • Work permits issued before 29 January 2018 will remain valid until their date of expiry.
  • Employers registered with the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development or the Public Authority for Social Insurance are exempt from the ban.

Employers in the affected sectors should contact their immigration specialist to confirm how this temporary hiring ban may affect them.
