NETHERLANDS – Entry Clearance Visa for Long Term Stay (MVV) Exempts More Foreign Workers
Additional exemptions for the Entry Clearance Visa for Long Term Stay (MVV) have been announced as of October 1, 2015. Eligible foreign nationals should experience a simpler and faster application process as it is no longer required to obtain an MVV from a Dutch consular post in their home country or country of residence. They will now be able to apply for their residence authorization or work authorization from within the Netherlands or from abroad.
These new exemptions will affect eligible visa nationals seeking to stay and work in the Netherlands for a period longer than three months. Eligible foreign nationals include those, such as knowledge migrants, with a valid residence permit from another Schengen country who will work for a qualified sponsor, those providing services under the Vander Elst exemption and those applying for a start-up entrepreneur residence permit within the Netherlands.
However, foreign nationals will still require a valid document to enter the Netherlands and to be eligible for the exemptions. The valid document includes a Schengen visa, a valid residence permit from another Schengen country (does not apply to start-up entrepreneurs) or a valid passport that allows a short stay visit during the exemption term which depends on the applicant’s nationality.
