Italy – Housing Feasibility Certificates
Foreign nationals sent to Italy on work permits must obtain housing feasibility certificates to provide to the immigration authorities that they have suitable accommodations. Employees must obtain the certificate within 8 days of arrival. These certificates have proven to be difficult to acquire for employees, as it is very challenging to obtain housing in several Italian cities. Many landlords need 30 days to register a lease as well.
A solution would be to provide temporary accommodation, such as a hotel, until long term housing is available. Depending on the locality, employers would also have to provide a letter ensuring the employee will be placed in a longer term housing if they leave the hotel accommodation. This option does not require the employee to obtain the housing feasibility certificate.
