GERMANY – New Minimum Salary Thresholds for EU Blue Card Program

The German government announced the new minimum salary thresholds under the EU Blue Card program that will come into effect on January 1, 2016. The minimum salary for shortage occupations has increased from 37,752 EUR to 38,688 EUR. The minimum salary for non-shortage occupations has also increased from 48,400 EUR to 49,600 EUR. Non-EEA foreign nationals, applying for the EU Blue Card program whose employment contracts begin on or after January 1st, will be subject to the new salary thresholds.
