Germany – Increase in EU Blue Card Salary

Beginning January 1, 2018, the minimum salary for the EU Blue Card in Germany will increase from EUR 50,800 to EUR 52,000. The salary threshold for certain shortage occupations will increase from EUR 39,624 to EUR 40,560.

Foreign nationals currently holding an EU Blue Card will not be affected except for new or renewal applications from January 1, 2018 and onwards. The prerequisites remain the same for the EU Blue Card, such as there must be an offer of local employment by a German company and the foreign national must hold a university degree comparable to German standards that fits the job description.
