European Union – Expected Changes for Travelers of Schengen Countries
Exit Entry System
The EU Commission proposed to implement a system that will automatically calculate the authorized stay of the applicant and alert the authorities of overstays when entering and exiting the Schengen area. Currently the passport is manually stamped.
ETIAS Information
Beginning 2021, US citizens travelling to European Schengen countries will need to apply for a European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before travel.
- Require a passport valid for 3 months beyond the period of intend stay
- ETIAS valid for 3 years
- Fee of 7 Euro
The ETIAS will be put in place to prescreen travelers, thus improving security measures through the Schengen area.
