Costa Rica – Extension of Closure of Migration Office

The closure of the Migration Offices has been extended until September 18, 2020.
The DIMEX of foreign nationals with permanent residence will be automatically extended until September 30, 2020. The DIMEX of foreign nationals with temporary residence and special categories that have already expired after December 18, 2019 have also been extended until September 30, 2020. Once this extension is over, the foreign national will have three months to complete the renewal.
Those that have entered Costa Rica as a tourist after December 17, 2019 may legally stay in Costa Rica until November 18, 2020. This extension is automatic and will not require an application.
