Canada – New Global Talent Stream to Begin in June
Beginning June 12, 2017, the government of Canada will implement a Global Talent Stream for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program applying for work permit applications and temporary resident visas when applicable as part of the Global Skills Strategy. The new stream will establish a two week standard processing time for low risk highly skilled talent.
Currently the list of eligible high demand occupations is being created by labour market experts, businesses and key stakeholders. Though the details of the eligible occupations have not been released yet, it is expected that Canada’s technology sector will benefit significantly.
The Global Talent Stream will also implement a work permit exemption for short term work that will allow stays of up to 30 days or less within a 12 month period. Details of this exemption are yet to be introduced.
