CANADA – Deadline for Electronic Travel Authorizations Extended

In August 2015, visa-exempt foreign nationals became eligible for Electronic Travel Authorizations (eTA) and were given until March 15, 2016 before it became mandatory for travelers to obtain an eTA in order to enter Canada. However, according to an official notice posted on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s (CIC) website, this deadline has been extended and visa-exempt nationals will continue to be able to travel to Canada without an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) until the fall of 2016.

Several visa-exempt nationals, such as U.S. citizens and foreign nationals who possess a valid Canadian visa, are excluded from this requirement. To view the official notice and a full list of the countries whose citizens will require an eTA, click here.
