BRAZIL – FIFA World Cup to Close Government Offices
As the 2014 FIFA World Cup is held in Brazil this year, the government has issued a decree which declares certain days as holidays during the event. On any days that the Brazilian national team is scheduled to play, government offices will generally close at noon. Each city within Brazil has its own holidays, depending on whether matches are scheduled to be played there. Currently, the following is the holiday schedule:
June 12th – World Cup opening ceremony and Brazil match
June 17th – Brazil match day
June 18th – Games in Rio de Janeiro – municipal holiday starting at noon
June 19th – National Holiday – Corpus Christi
June 23rd – Brazil match day
June 25th – Games in Rio – municipal holiday starting at noon
July 4th – Games in Rio – municipal holiday all day
If the Brazilian team makes advancements during the tournament, additional holidays may be established. For inquires about business hours for a specific office, foreign nationals should contact the office directly. It should be noted that the tournament officially ends on July 14th.
