Belgium – Work permit processing delays
Work permits under process for the newly introduced Single Permit have been undergoing long processing delays. The single permit is a residence permit with confirmation of the right to work, applicable to non-EU nationals seeking to work and reside in Belgium for longer than 90 days. The delays are caused in part for the need for approval from various governmental authorities.
In order to cope with the delays, the Federal Office in Belgium has increased their staff to process the Single Permit applications faster. Due to a new policy, work permit holders in the Flanders region may now continue to work while their Single Permit application is in process, without any noncompliance issues.
Employers who may be affected are encouraged to contact an immigration specialist for case-specific advice
