Australia – Delays Expected at Affected Airports
Employees of the Community Public Sector Union working for the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) will begin a two week strike, commencing Monday, September 26th and to end on Sunday, October 9th. DIBP workers plan to strike in 30 minute intervals throughout the day which will cause significant disruption and delays. These strikes may affect foreign nationals requiring Immigration services at affected Australian airports. The strikes will occur at New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia, the Australian Capital Territory, and the Northern Territory. Travelers should be aware of the delays that are to be expected.
The strikes are due to a dispute over DIBP’s enterprise bargaining, which has lasted for over 1,000 days now. The CPSU believes the new offer is worse than the existing agreement in place, in which the new offer would provide a pay raise of one cent per year.
