Emina Alic-Muharemovic’s experiences as an immigrant to the U.S. have deeply informed her practice. “I have first-hand experience of the immigration process,” she says, “and I have always wanted to help others to better understand the system.” Her decision to become an attorney was driven by a desire to become a compassionate and empathic advocate for immigrants and to “be the person who helps others navigate the process and to help them achieve their goals.”
At FGI, Emina works on H-1B cases for our clients in the information technology domain. Her awareness of the challenges that immigrants face informs her approach to her clients: “I have learned to devise strategies and to find the best path to achieving their goals.”
Emina graduated from Michigan State University and earned her J.D. at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. While in law school, she worked for the University of Detroit Mercy’s Immigration Clinic and for Lakeshore Legal Aid. She is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan – Macomb County branch, the Macomb County Bar Association, and the Oakland County Bar Association. Emina enjoys traveling, having been to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain. She also enjoys baking and reading in her spare time. Asked to summarize her practice philosophy, she offered a quote from President Lyndon B. Johnson, “The land flourished because it was fed from so many sources – because it was nourished by so many cultures and traditions and people.”
