Long Waiting Times For Visa Appointments At German Missions In India

The German authorities have published current waiting times for

visa appointments at the various German missions around India.

Waiting times vary drastically depending on the mission and the

visa type:

  • Visa appointments for degree-levelstudents take between 48 hours (Chennai) and 6 months (New

    Delhi);

  • Visa appointments for employment(with prior ZAV approval) take between 24 hours (Chennai VFS Global

    Visa Application Centre) and six months (New Delhi);

  • Visa appointments for family reuniontake between one week (Kolkata) and eight months (New Delhi);
  • National (D) visa appointments takebetween one week (Kolkata) and 30 weeks (New Delhi).
  • Schengen visa appointments takebetween 48 hours (New Delhi, Bengaluru or Kolkata) and three weeks

    (Mumbai).

Germany has had high volumes of visa applications from India for

some time, but since 2018 the numbers have increased. Applicants at

missions in other Asian countries, as well as in Africa and the

Americas, may also experience long waiting times.
