Sweden – Changes to Revoking Temporary Residence Permits

New changes regarding the revocation of a temporary residence permit for work will go into effect beginning of December 1, 2017. The changes will no longer require the Swedish Migration Agency to revoke a temporary residence permit in relation to work if the employer corrected the shortcomings that were previously grounds for recall.

The Swedish Parliament may introduce a new law that that suggests that foreign workers in Sweden should no longer be deported if the employer unintentionally makes minor mistakes related to the work permit conditions. This would also apply even if the mistake was detected after the work permit has expired, or if the Swedish Migration Agency detected the mistake. The proposed law may be introduced as early as July 1, 2018.
