Slovakia – Immigration Changes to take Effect May 1, 2018

Slovakia Parliament will be implementing several new changes beginning May 1, 2018.

The changes to be expected will apply to districts in Slovakia where the unemployment rate for the previous year was less than 5%, are as follows:

  • A workforce shortage list will be published by June 30, 2018 by the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family. The list will be reviewed on or before January 31st of each calendar year.
  • Work permits for non-EU nationals of the job positions noted in the workforce shortages should be easier to obtain
  • The company cannot have more than 30% of non-EU nationals employed who are exempt from the labor market test.
  • Companies that have committed illegal employment within the last two years are excluded from the above benefits.
