NIGERIA – Nationwide Long-Term Work Permit Verification Suspended

As announced before, the Nigeria Immigration Service issued a public notice for a nationwide verification exercise from March 14, 2016 to March 31, 2016, requiring employers to submit their long term work permits, known as the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Alien Card, or CERPAC. The verification was put in place last month to determine if companies were abusing the long term work-authorization.

However, the nationwide verification exercise is now on hold for the time being, but may resume in the future. Companies that have not submitted their employees CERPAC’s to the Nigeria Immigration Service should be ready to do so for when the review restarts. Companies that have already submitted their employees CERPAC’s and completed the verification process may be exempt from any additional verification procedures in the future, when the review resumes.
