Malaysia – Approval letters Required for Entry on Employment Passes

Effective August 1, 2015, foreign nationals that enter Malaysia for work must present their approval letter issued by the Expatriate Services Division. The approval letter is required for all employment passes, dependent passes, professional visit passes, and long term visit passes. Foreign nationals must remain outside of the country until their approval letter is received before they travel to Malaysia.

In the past, foreign nationals were able to wait for the approval letter while in country. Foreign nationals may stay in country while changing employers, however, if they leave the country while their current employment pass expires, may not be allowed to reenter until the approval letter is received.
