KENYA – Long Term Work Permits are Experiencing Processing Delays

The Department of Immigration Services (DIS) in Kenya is experiencing delays in processing long term work permits for foreign nationals. The majority of the delays are occurring during the file-opening stages for new and renewal applications and also during the issuance process after government fees have been paid.

The DIS has associated the delays with the lack of staff and the high volume of applications and is therefore not projecting the problem to be resolved soon. However, it seems that processing times for short term work passes have not been impacted.

Employers and foreign nationals are advised to submit new or renewal applications early in anticipation of unexpected delays.
