KAZAKHSTAN – Amendments to Work Permit Rules

Kazakhstan has announced several amendments to immigration regulations that will take effect by the end of 2015. Among the various changes, work permits will only be valid in the issuing region and will no longer authorize work to extended regions. Therefore, in order to seek work authorization in another region, foreign nationals will need to submit a new work permit application.

Traveling on business to other regions without requiring a work permit was previously permitted for a period of 60 days. Effective immediately, the exemption period has been extended to 90 days. This period calculates the number of cumulative days spent working in regions other than the issuing region per calendar year. Additionally, employers are no longer required to meet “special conditions”, such as the hiring and training of local staff, when filling a managerial or directorial position.
