IRELAND –Travel within EU/EEA Permitted with New Irish Passport Card

Irish nationals who are over the age of 18 and who hold a valid Irish passport will be eligible for the new Passport Card beginning September 28, 2015. The new card can be used as an identification document, to travel within the European Union and European Economic Area (EEA) and as proof of foreign workers’ right to work. The card will have a maximum validity period of five years or the remaining validity of an applicant’s passport book. The cost of a Passport Card will be 35 EUR or 40 EUR if the applicant resides outside of Ireland.
