Hong Kong – Stricter Rules for Employment Visas

The Honk Kong immigration department is enforcing stricter rules on employment visas in the General Employment Policy and Admission Scheme for Mainland Talent Professionals categories. They are now requiring employers to advertise the job position for an additional 4 weeks, justify and explain why a local worker was not hired, and provide a support letter before an employment visa is filed.

Processing times are likely to increase now from 4-6 weeks to 8 weeks due to the added protocol before applying for an employment visa. The stricter rules come into effect due to Hong Kong’s government audit of its Immigration Department.
