GERMANY – Appointment and Processing Delays for Immigration Services

In response to the growing number of asylum seekers, the German government has been contributing resources which in turn may affect appointment and processing times for immigration services. All applications requiring approval from an immigration office in Germany will most likely experience delays including work visas, family reunion visas, foreign nationals with pending immigration appointments and pending applications filed with immigration offices.

Foreign nationals who do not require an entry visa and wish to apply for work or residence permits, ought to consider applying abroad for an entry work visa and then converting it to a work permit after arriving in Germany. This would allow the foreign national to work immediately upon arrival and not have to wait until after they have attended an appointment.
