Canada – Notable Changes to the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP)

The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) provides eligible students the chance to obtain valuable Canadian work experience.

On February 14, 2019, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) implemented several changes to the PGWPP, such as:

  • The removal of the requirement to hold a valid study permit at the time of submitting a PGWPP application
  • The extension of the application deadline from 90 days to 6 months

Among several other minor changes to the guidelines, PGWPP applications can now be submitted in Canada, assuming the student has legal status, or from overseas.

These changes were designed to provide students with more time to submit their PGWPP applications upon receipt of their graduation notices from their educational institution.
