BELGIUM – Forthcoming Newcomers Statement Required for Non-EU Nationals

In the summer of 2016, a new policy is expected to be enacted in Belgium for non-EU migrants and refugees that want to live in the country for more than three months. Applicants will have to sign a national declaration accepting Belgium local values and judicial laws. They will also be required to sign a “newcomers’ statement” agreement claiming they will not perform acts of terrorism. When the registration process begins, that signed agreement along with a visa application will have to be submitted at either a local town hall or at a diplomatic post in Belgium. After the foreign policy has been approved, non-EU nationals will have to submit proof of integration to a Belgium immigration service office. Further details on submitting additional documents will be determined and announced towards the appointed date.
