AUSTRALIA – Department of Immigration and Border Protection Workers to go on Strike
Workers at Australia’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) are preparing to strike on Monday, August 3, 2015, in order to improve their pay and work conditions. The strike could inherently affect all international travelers at several airports by causing delays and it also may slow down immigration services, including visa processing. The Australian government has recognized the strike as a “protected industrial action” and they have stated that it will not risk airport security, but that delays should be anticipated.
The airports that are likely to be affected include those in Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
